Pre-Engineered Custom Aluminum, Stainless Steel or Bronze Ceiling Systems, Wall Panels, Column Covers & Light Forms
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of the contract, including General Conditions, apply to work of this section.
B. Extent of work as shown on contract drawings.
1.02 SCOPE
A. Scope of work is as follows:
  1. Pre-engineered custom metal ceiling system.
  2. Pre-engineered custom metal wall panels system.
  3. Pre-engineered custom column covers.
  4. Pre-engineered custom metal lighting forms and pockets.
B. It is acknowledged that this is a performance specification. The materials herein specified have been carefully chosen due to their inherent performance characteristics. Lesser quality material will not be considered or approved.

1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Manufacturer:Firm with manufacturing and delivery capacity required for project, shall have successfully completed at least ten projects in the United States of America within the past five years, utilizing systems and techniques as herein specified.
  1. Firm must own and operate it's own United States Manufacturing Facilities for all metal components. "Stick Built" or "kit of Part Systems," consisting of components from a variety of manufacturers, and/or non-United States Manufactured Products will not be considered or accepted.
  2. Firm must own and operate it's own United States Painting and Finishing Facility to assure "single source responsibility."
B. Manufacturer / fabricator shall be approved at least 14 days prior to bid date as called for in specifications or altered by addenda.
C. Work specified herein shall be performed by an approved manufacturer / fabricator regularly engaged in the engineering, fabrication and finishing of similar ceiling systems, wall panel systems, column cover systems and lighting form systems. Manufacturer / fabricator and installer shall have a minimum 10 years experience with similar ceiling, wall panel, column cover and lighting form systems. Installer shall be acceptable to manufacturer / fabricator of these systems. All engineering, fabrication and finishing shall be done in approved manufacturer / fabricator's own plant. At Architect's Option, the manufacturer / fabricator shall make arrangements to pay for the Architect and Owner's Representative to visit the firm's facility prior to the approval to verify the requirements of this Section 05730.
D. Mock-ups:
  1. Provide no less than:
    a. one ceiling module
    b. one column cover
    c. one wall panel
    d. 10 lineal feet of lighting form
    All as indicated on the drawings for visual appearance only. Costs of mock-up shall have been included in the bid.
  2. Prepare mock-ups from completed detailed shop drawings incorporating typical architectural and structural features and all typical components including lighting and mechanical elements. Obtain approval from the Architect prior to the fabrication of any component parts.
  3. Erect mock-ups under manufacturer / fabricator's and installer's direct supervision and employ workmen who will be employed during the actual erection at site.
  4. The intent of the mock-up is to establish a level of quality for both installation and fabrication of the ceiling system, wall panels, column covers and lighting forms. The mock-up shall remain in place throughout the installation of the work to serve as criteria for acceptance of the work.
1.05 SUBMITTALS
A. In accordance with the submittals section, furnish the following:
B. Apparent low bidder shall submit proposal drawings and calculations from an approved manufacturer which describe the work specified herein to demonstrate a clear understanding of pre-engineered ceiling systems, wall panel systems, column covers and lighting forms required for this project. Proposal drawings shall include sections and 1/4 full size details showing all components of each system, including items listed under Related Sections in Part herein.
C. Apparent low bidder shall submit certification of minimum experience requirements specified in Quality Assurance Section of this specification. Also submit a list of five (5) projects, with references, for completed projects of similar size and scope. Provide firm names, addresses, personal contact, telephone and fax numbers for owner and architect
D. Shop Drawings:
  1. Shop drawings shall show dimensions, sizes, thickness, alloys, tempers, finishes, joining, and all methods of anchorage to building structure, including but not limited to relationship of adjoining work. Drawings shall be caD produced.
  2. Submit reflected ceiling plans showing ceiling grid members, light fixtures, diffusers, grills, speakers, and sprinkler heads, and their coordination with other work.
  3. Drawings shall show typical conditions, splicing methods, ceiling grid conditions, reveal and closure details.
  4. Identify reference points for installation layout.
E. Samples: (twelve (12) each of the following for approval:
  1. 12" x 12" pieces of each sheet material.
  2. 12" long piece of each linear material.
  3. 3" x 5" sample of each finish.
  4. Each type screw, fastener, of other accessories.
F. Certification: Submit structural calculations for all ceiling systems, wall panels, column covers and lighting forms specified herein. Calculations shall be stamped by a professional engineer licensed in the state of_________. Provide all loading information for ceiling wall and column anchors to building frame for review by the Project Professional Engineer.
G. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's Product Data including brochures and technical data indicating compliance with specified requirements.
H. Submit details of mock-up specified in Quality Assurance Section of this specification, prior to erection of mock-up. Erect mock-up only after approval by architect of mockup drawings. Mock-up is for appearance only.
1.06 SEQUENCING
A. Substitute Products: The listed manufacturer shall not be construed as closing specifications to other prospective manufacturers, but rather as establishing a level of quality in the ceiling systems, wall panel systems, column covers and lighting forms. However, alternate proposals for substitute products will not be accepted unless approved as issued in addenda. Substitute products will not be issued in addenda unless request for substitution and complete and sufficient data are furnished to the architect and owner for review. Samples and data must be received by architect and owner a minimum of fourteen (14) calendar days prior to issue date of last addenda allowable under current project schedule as determined by architect and owner. Any additional costs incurred due to requested substitutions, will be paid in full by the party requesting substitution.
B. Contract Execution: Submittals, including mock-up, shall be completed and approved, prior to award of subcontract for this section.
C. Manufacturer's Production Schedule: Subcontract for the work of this section shall be awarded to allow sufficient time for manufacturer's standard production schedule. Subcontractor shall submit a written confirmation of production and delivery schedule on Manufacturer's Letterhead within ten (10) days of general contract award.
1.07 WARRANTY
A. General; Submit manufacturer's warranty that the materials furnished will perform as specified, and have been installed in more than 500,000 square feet of similar institutions in the United States of America within the past four (4) years.
B. All system metal components shall be manufactured and supplied by the named manufacturer. Individual components, provided by individual suppliers will not be considered or accepted. IT IS THE CLEAR INTENT OF THIS SPECIFIcaTION TO PROVIDE A COMPLETE, FULLY TESTED, SINGLE SOURCE SYSTEM, SUPPLIED, PRODUCED AND MANUFACTURED BY A SINGLE COMPANY, IN THEIR OWN MANUFACTURING FACILITIES. IT IS ALSO THE CLEAR INTENT TO NOT ACCEPT "STICK BUILT" PARTS AND PIECES FROM VARIOUS DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS.
C. All materials must be manufactured and produced in the United States of America.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS

B. Products: The products herein specified are standard manufactured products of the listed manufacturer. They are totally pre-engineered and tested as a system. Products comprised of a non pre-engineered system will not be considered or allowed. "Stick Built" systems will not be considered or allowed.
2.02 PRODUCT CONSTRUCTION
A. Ceiling System: Shall be Baker Metal Ceiling Systems. All panels, perimeter trim, and grid are to provided as a complete package of this work. No exposed fasteners of any kind are allowed.
  1. Grid System:
    a. Type 6063-T6 Alloy extruded aluminum. Grid shall consist of main tees, cross tees, perimeter angle, and any necessary clips and splices required for a complete system as required to meet local building codes.
    b. Deflection of grid shall be limited to L/360 of the span when full dead load is applied.
B. Wall Panels: Shall be Baker Zee System, or Baker N-gage (TM) System. All secondary framing, anchors, clips and fasteners are to be provided as a complete package of this work. No exposed fasteners for metal closures will be allowed or accepted.
  1. Acoustical Properties (use this section in the event that the panels are to provide sound absorption):
    a. Panels will be perforated in 1/16" diameter hole pattern, 1/4" O.C. staggered, 5% open area (or choose other patterns that may be available for the panel size). 
    b. Fiberglass core- 1" (11/2", 2") x 1 lb density glass fiber core encapsulated within a 1 mil polyethylene sealed bag. (NOTE: a higher density fiberglass up to 6# is also available).
  2. Fabrication:
    a. Height of wall panels shall be up to 12'6" without horizontal joints.&
    b. Wall panels shall have either a closed or reveal vertical joint, as shown on the architectural drawings. All other details, including base and ceiling details, shall be fabricated in accordance with the architectural drawings.
C. Column Covers: Shall be Baker N-gage (TM) Demountable System, Universal System or Economy System. All secondary posts, anchors, clips or fasteners are to be provided as a complete package of this work. No exposed fasteners for metal closures are allowed.
  1. Height of column covers shall be up to 12'6" without horizontal joints.
  2. Column covers shall have either a closed or reveal vertical joint, as shown on the architectural drawings. All other details, including base and ceiling details, shall be fabricated in accordance with the architectural drawings.
  3. All covers shall be removable, demountable, and re-usable without exposed fasteners (if N-gage, Omni Tech-E, Universal or Economy Series are non-accessible). No visible caulking of vertical joints is permitted.
D. Lighting Forms: Light Cove System shall be Baker Lighting Forms (TM). All anchors, clips and fasteners are to provided as a complete package of this work. No exposed fasteners for metal closures are allowed.
  1. Length of Lighting Enclosures shall be up to 12'6" without vertical joints.
  2. Lighting Enclosures shall have either a closed or reveal vertical joint, as shown on the architectural drawings. All other details including wall and ceiling details, shall be fabricated in accordance the architectural drawings.
  3. No visible caulking of vertical joints is permitted.
2.03 METALS
A. Choose from the following selections for exposed metal. (Gauge of material should be adequate to resist design loads.)
  1. Aluminum Sheet shall be 3003-H14 Alloy.
  2. Stainless Steel Sheet shall be Type 304.
  3. Bronze Sheet shall be Muntz Metal Alloy 280.
  4. Galvanized Steel shall be electroplated. (Recommended for interior application only.)
2.04 FINISHES
A. Architect choose from the following alternatives:
  1. Aluminum shall receive a factory applied and baked finish of Fluropon, Classic II, AcroFlur or Acrodize. If aluminum is to be field painted it should receive a factory applied Alodine Pretreatment.
  2. Galvanized Steel Sheets shall receive a factory applied and baked finish of Fluropon or AcroFlur.
  3. Stainless Steel sheets shall receive a factory applied #4 Brushed, XL Finish, #7 Mirror, or #8 Mirror Finish or non-directional Satin Finish.
  4. Bronze Sheets shall receive a factory applied #4 Brushed, or #8 Mirror Finish, followed by an air dry clear lacquer finish if required.
  5. Other potential finishes are colored stainless steel, decorated metals, and embossed metals. Consult Shannon Corporation.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Examine building structure scheduled to receive ceilings system, wall panels, column covers or lighting forms for moisture, temperature, unevenness or irregularities that would affect the quality and execution of work. If an adverse condition is found, advise General Contractor and DO NOT proceed until corrected.
B. Tolerances (Ceiling Systems): Install ceiling system with maximum permissible deflection of L/360 of span and maximum surface deviation of 1/8" in 10'0" (no loads applied).
C. Tolerances (Wall Panels, Column Covers, Lighting Forms): Architect Select.
3.02 CEILING SYSTEMS INSTALLATION:
A. General: Comply with Manufacturer's Printed Instructions with governing regulations for fire resistance rated work, and with Ceiling & Interior Systems Construction Association Standards applicable to work.
B. Space Enclosure: Do not install any ceiling work until space is enclosed and weatherproofed, wet work in space is completed and nominally dry, work above ceilings is complete, and temperature and humidity continuously maintained at values near those of final occupancy.
C. Install Grid Systems:
  1. Comply with ASTM C636-86 with hangers supported only from building structural members.
  2. Locate hangers not less than 6 inches from each end of grid system members, and spaced in-between as needed to meet specified design loads.
  3. Install hangers plumb and free from contact with insulation or other objects within ceiling plenum that are not part of structural or ceiling grid system.
  4. Splay hangers to a maximum of 15 degrees from the vertical, only where required to miss obstructions and offset resulting horizontal force by bracing or counter-splaying.
D. Edge Trim:
  1. Install trim at perimeter of ceiling system using maximum possible lengths, straight, true to line and level.
  2. Provide edge trim at junctions with other soffit finishes and where cut panel edges would be exposed.
E. Metal Panels:
  1. Fit metal panel units in place, free from defects detrimental to appearance and function, and with the previously specified tolerances for flatness, and trueness.
  2. Install units level, in uniform plane, and free from twist, warp, and dents.
  3. If necessary, cut panels to fit at borders and other penetrations.
3.03 WALL PANELS INSTALLATION:
A. Install wall panels in accordance with manufacturer's written installation instructions and shop drawings.
B. Wall panels shall be erected plumb, level, square, true to line, securely anchored, and in proper alignment and relationship to work of other trades.
C. Wall Panels shall be inspected before installation to be free from dents, scratches and other defects.
3.04 COLUMN COVERS INSTALLATION:
A. Install column covers in accordance with manufacturer's written installation instructions and shop drawings.
B. Column covers shall be erected plumb, level, square, true to line, securely anchored, and in proper alignment and relationship to work of other trades.
C. Column covers shall be inspected before installation to be free from dents, scratches and other defects.
3.05 LIGHTING FORMS INSTALLATION:
A. Install lighting forms in accordance with manufacturer's written installation instructions and shop drawings.
B. Lighting forms shall be erected plumb, level, square, true to line, securely anchored, and in proper alignment and relationship to work of other trades.
C. Lighting forms shall be inspected before installation to be free from dents, scratches and other defects.
3.06 CLEANING AND PROTECTION
A. Removal of protective covering shall occur immediately after installation to prevent adhesive transfer.
B. Protection of ceiling system, wall panels, column covers and lighting forms from damage by other trades after installation to be provided by General Contractor.
C. Clean all surfaces following installation.
D. Replace units having scratches, abrasion, or other defects with new unblemished panels, parts and/or pieces.
3.07 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Variation from specification: Any variation from any section of this specification resulting in additional costs to any other contractor, sub-contractor or supplier on this project shall be the sole financial responsibility of the contractor for the work of this section.
